Feeling Inspired!

I did this speed paint in about 2 hours.  That may not seem very speedy, but for me to get something "finished" that quick, even a little study of an apple, is pretty sweet!  I got inspired after watching a video Hollie Hibbert put up on her blog of a study she did.  I still have some questions about specific parts of her process, but it was a great exercise for me.  I even made an ABC's list of subjects that Brandon helped me choose for further speed paint exercises.

PS: if you haven't seen Hollie Hibbert's work, you can check it out at her blog here.  She graduated a few semesters before I did and her work has always been very inspirational to me.  Thanks Hollie!

  1. Cool. Great job getting something done so quickly. I am working on being faster myself. The color is beautiful. I like your edges and textures. It looks great! Can't wait to see more :)

    1. Thanks so much Alissa! Your post on process also contributed to feeling inspired to try to emulate Hollie's process. I really liked the results I got today. I'm sure it'll keep evolving and mooching off of others hard earned experience. ;) Isn't that what all artists try to do anyway? Learn as many precious jewels of knowledge about how to make their work better from those who got there the hard way.

I really enjoyed working with colored line, but not being tied or committed to the line. It could come and go wherever it felt good. I used my favorite background brush I made for the background on this piece, and several others. It's so nice. I'm not sure where I would share such a thing, but I'm all for sharing brushes!

It's been great seeing your work on your blog too. Way to go!

  2. That is fast and nice work Shara. I may be biased, but I want some of your work in my apartment.

  3. Very fun Shara! It has awesome color in there!

Seriously, you are the sweetest person! I was having the longest day and then when I saw your post, I felt all sorts of warm fuzzies! :-)

Ha, there's really not much of a 'process.' It's different project to project depending on the overall look. When I was making the video, every brush stroke was delayed so by the end I was feeling very impatient with it. Next time I do a video, I'll try and incorporate some descriptions of what I am doing. But please feel free to email me any questions. I'm not an expert, but I'll be happy to help if I can.
